Divorce Care: Don’t go through separation and divorce alone. Divorce Care is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk along side you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. It’s where you can find help as you recover from the hurt of separation or divorce.



GriefShare Support Group: If you’ve lost at spouse, child, family member or friend, you have probably found that there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This group is led by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult time.

American Legion Post 116 Events

The American Legion Post 116 will be having its annual Oktoberfest Saturday September 17 at 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 116 on 6400 Johnson Pond Rd., Fuquay-Varina. There will be food, music, beer, raffles and lots of fun for all. Food and beer tickets can be purchase on the grounds and there will be 50/50 and raffle tickets for great prizes. Raffle tickets are $10.00 each for 5 people and you could will $1000.00. Your corporation could win $500.00 for purchasing groups of tickets. Cash Bingo will be played on the hour 1-5:00 p.m. (blackout/coverall) as a 50/50. Proceeds for the raffles and bingo will go to the homeless veterans.

-The Sons of the American Legion Post 116 is holding their annual Horseshoe Tournament Saturday, September 24th at 1:00pm at the American Legion Post 116 on 6400 Johnson Pond Rd., Fuquay-Varina. Please show up early to register. The entry fee is $10.00 and teams are randomly picked. There will be trophies for 1st and 2nd place as well as a gift for the first team out. There will be food and entertainment along with 50/50's all day long. Should it rain the rain-date is set for Sunday, September 25.

-The American Legion Auxiliary will be holding a Spaghetti Dinner Saturday, October 15 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 116 on 6400 Johnson Pond Rd., Fuquay-Varina. Tickets are $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for kids 10 and under and may be purchased at the door. Take out will be available also.



Grammy Winner Featured Storyteller

Grammy-winning, Native American performer Bill Miller is the featured teller for Wake County’s 29th Annual Storytelling Festival on Sept. 24, 2011, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Historic Oak View County Park, 4028 Carya Drive, Raleigh. Presented by Wake County Public Libraries and Wake County Parks, Recreation & Open Space, the festival is free and open to the public. Other noted storytellers, performing in a variety of traditions, include Lyn Ford, Didgeridoo Down Under, Tim Lowry, Priscilla Best, Dasie Roberts and John Golden.

African American Cultural Festival

The Board of Governors of the African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County is proud to present its second annual Festival in downtown Raleigh over Labor Day weekend. This celebration of African American art and culture will take place on City Plaza, Charter Square and along the 300 and 400 blocks of Fayetteville Street on September 3 and 4, 2011.

On Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.,

attendees will enjoy an African American arts and crafts market, specialty items and food vendors. A family-friendly Village featuring performances and educational, interactive programming for school-aged children will be another key feature of the festival. Highlights here include the Kenya Safari Acrobats, the African American Quilter Circle, Obakunle, and more.

City Plaza, Raleigh’s “public living room,” is the site for the Main Stage. Local, regional and nationally recognized acts will enliven the Festival site both days. Audiences will enjoy numerous performances of traditional and contemporary African American music and dance including Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Trouble Funk, the African Children’s Choir, Plunky and Oneness, Troop 41, Sensory

Expressions, the African American Dance Ensemble, and JJ Wilkins and the Wake Chapel Choir. Performances are scheduled from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 12:30 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
