Safety course offered Sunday in Holly Springs

The Wake County Sheriff's Office and Range Safety Management, LLC are offering a 4 hour course on home firearm safety on Sunday afternoon, November 8, 2009 at the County’s Firearms Education and Training Center in the Apex-Holly Springs area.

Many homes have firearms but some of the residents may not be familiar with how to handle or store firearms to prevent access by unauthorized individuals. The Home Firearm Safety Course is a NRA-certified course that presents basic firearm knowledge and skills and explains the necessary attitude for the safe handling and storing of firearms in the home. The course also familiarizes participants with safe firearm handling procedures and guidelines for storing pistols, rifles, and shotguns in the home. It is not necessary to own a firearm to enroll in the course.

The Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center is an indoor shooting facility that is open to the public. The range is located at 3921 Old Holly Springs-Apex Road.

The fee for the course is $40 and anyone may enroll – membership at the range is not required. The course will start at 1:00 p.m. and end by 5:00 p.m. Enrollment information is available on the Wake County website at www.wakegov.com/firingrange.
