Parts of downtown Apex will be closed to traffic during the next two Sunday mornings as filming for the children’s television show The Rusty Bucket Kids Club continues.
The stretch of Salem St. from Center to Chatham streets will be closed from 5 a.m. to noon on Oct. 18 and 25.
Police will also block off Salem from Center to Hunter Street on Oct.18 from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Show producer Bob Crowley said church goers won’t have a problem reaching either Apex United Methodist Church or Apex Baptist Church on either of those days.
“I spoke with both pastors at both churches and they have been great,” said Crowley. “We understood what they needed and they understood what we needed. We are working together to make sure no one will have a problem getting to church. It will just be a little different traffic pattern in some ways because you won’t be able to use Salem Street.”
The section of Salem from Center to Hunter shouldn’t cause a problem for residents or church-goers.
“The reason we are (opening the street) at 8 a.m. is so church traffic can get through,” said Crowley. “It also won’t be a problem for anyone lives there. It’s not like the road will be choked with equipment. It’s just a few key pieces of equipment. Just talk to the police officers (who are stopping traffic) and they will wave you on.”
Filming for the show began Monday at locations in the New Hill area. Crowley said Apex officials and business owners have been very cooperative in planning for the downtown filming sequences.
“We are more than pleased with the cooperation of the merchants,” said Crowley.
“Everybody has been absolutely super and we haven’t heard one word of complaint. The town (staff) has been so cooperative and helpful. They have been willing to meet with us virtually anytime we needed to meet with them to discuss plans and work out the details.”
Crowley also praised fire chief Mark Haraway, police chief Jack Lewis, and EMS chief Nicky Winstead for their cooperation as well as town manager Bruce Radford.
“I can’t say enough about Bruce,” said Crowley. “He has been very forthcoming and extremely helpful in working with us. This has been a true cooperative effort. Everyone has been working together to make this happen.”
