The following programs are being held at Wake County Parks:

-Let’s Make Track, May 8, 1-3 p.m. – Visit Lake Crabtree County Park and learn how to identify animals by the tracks they leave behind. Park staff will teach participants the basics of animal tracking. After a short tracking expedition in the park, participants will be given the opportunity to make their own animal track to take home, along with other fun activities. Pre-registration is required. The fee for this program is $5 per person or $10 per family. Meet at the Dogwood Shelter. For information, call 460-3390. Lake Crabtree County Park is located at 1400 Aviation Parkway, Morrisville.

-Fishing Fun Day, Saturday, May 14, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. – Bring the entire family to Harris Lake County Park for a day of fishing fun. Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to fish with a rod of their own or borrow one from the park. Learn about the Tackle Loaner Program as well as adaptive fishing equipment for people with limited mobility. Bait will be provided while supplies last. The event is free. For information, call 387-4342. Harris Lake County Park is located at 2112 County Park Drive, New Hill.

-Crowder by Night-Owls, May 20, 8-9:30 p.m. – Participants are invited to experience Crowder District Park after dark to get a close look at the mounted owls, while hiking to the amphitheater to listen for live ones. Registration is required. The fee is $3 per person or $5 per family. Meet at the Heron Shelter. For information, call 662-2850. Crowder District Park is located at 4709 Ten-Ten Road, Apex.

-Gristmill, Saturday, May 21, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. – Learn how a gristmill operates by visiting Historic Yates Mill County Park. Grist milling is a complicated process that involves many pieces working together. During this family program, participants will learn the basic operations of a gristmill by participating in hands-on activities and building their own gristmill craft. The fee is $5 per family or $3 per person. For information, call 856-6675. Historic Yates Mill County Park is located at 4620 Lake Wheeler Road, Raleigh.

-Civil War History, Sunday, May 22, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The entire family is invited to Historic Oak View County Park to learn how the 26th N.C. Infantry Regiment prepared for the Civil War in 1861. This event is free and open to the public. For information, call 250-1013. Historic Oak View is located at 4028 Carya Drive, Raleigh.

-Mammal Mania, Sunday, May 22, 2-3 p.m. –Visit the American Tobacco Trail to learn about mammals that can be found along the trail including foxes, deer, beavers and raccoons. This program is at the White Oak Church parking lot. The fee is $3 per person or $5 per family. Pre-registration is required. For information, call 387-2117. American Tobacco Trail is located at 1309 New Hill-Olive Chapel Road, New Hill.

-‘Leaf’ it to Me, Saturday, May 28, 9:30-11 a.m. – Families are invited to Blue Jay Point County Park to learn what trees need to grow and how to identify common trees by their foliage. The fee is $5 per family and pre-registration is required. For information, call 870-4330. Blue Jay Point County Park is located at 3200 Pleasant Union Church Road, Raleigh.
