While Downtown Apex is a popular destination for its historic buildings and small-town feel, the Apex Downtown Business Association is using up-to-the-minute technology to connect the community with events and happenings in downtown.
In late June the ADBA launched a smart phone app, in conjunction with miPlaces, which is capable of providing users with information on Downtown Apex events, sales, and special offers sent directly to mobile phones.
To promote both the app and the upcoming 2nd Annual Apex Jazz Festival, users will be eligible for free tickets to the jazz festival by simply downloading the app.
The ADBA/miPlaces app is available for iPhone and Android smartphone users. The download is free through the App Store and Google Play. Once installed, users can modify their own settings to opt in or out of the types of messages they’d like to receive from the ADBA.
The miPlaces app also allows users to receive messages from other businesses and groups in the miPlaces network. Beginning the week of August 13th, the ADBA make available free tickets to the Apex Jazz Festival on September 15th via the miPlaces app.
“This is uncharted territory, so we’re still learning new ways in which we can use this technology to benefit the people who enjoy coming to Downtown Apex, and the businesses that make up the community,” said John Kozicki, ADBA member and owner of Music & Rock School.
“We thought offering free tickets to the upcoming Apex Jazz Festival would be a great way to encourage people to start using the app. In turn, as the user base grows the ADBA can better determine the information that our users want to receive, and when they want to receive it.”
The miPlaces app is developed and maintained by Cary-based tech company, Social eMotion. The ADBA is the first merchant group to launch on miPlaces, and Social eMotion plans to use the ADBA model for a variety of event-focused customers such as entertainment venues, shopping center merchant groups, and municipal recreation/communication departments.
