Nancy Martin’s Blackbird Sisters series highlights three Philadelphia heiresses who’ve lost their trust funds. Nora, (her first-time job is as a newspaper society columnist) stumbles over many dead bodies while covering the Main Line social scene. Martin’s Roxy Abruzzo series features a tough-girl from the Rust Belt.
In 2009, Martin won the Lifetime Achievement award for mystery writing from Romantic Times magazine.
Hank Phillippi Ryan has won the Anthony, Agatha, and Macavity awards for her crime fiction, often featuring series character Charlotte McNally, a TV investigative reporter much like herself (Hank has nearly 20 Emmys gracing her shelves). The Other Woman introduces disgraced TV journalist Jane Ryland, now on the low rung at a newspaper.
Weston has brought mystery authors to the area for nearly 20 years. The Apex native received the Mystery Writers of America’s Raven Award in New York in April. The Raven is a special award given for outstanding achievement in the mystery field outside the realm of creative writing.
