Beth Shalom has announced expansion plans to help keep up with local growth.

After seven years of planning and working closely with architect Wesley McClure of McClure Hopkins Architects and with the Davidson & Jones Construction Company, construction on Beth Shalom will follow the groundbreaking ceremony to be held on Sunday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m.

The expansion is needed to accommodate the growth of the Jewish community in Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina and surrounding Southwest Wake County communities.

The 6,000-square-foot expansion will allow Beth Shalom to hold all of its services at Beth Shalom, to increase its programming and to offer a greater variety of services.

Beth Shalom has come a long way since it began nearly three decades ago.

In 1983, four families began the Cary Jewish Community Center and conducted services in one member’s home. In 1991, it was renamed Beth Shalom and the first phase of construction was completed in 2000. At that time, membership included 159 families.

Today, under Rabbi Ariel Edery, Beth Shalom has grown to include 223 families with continued growth expected.

Beth Shalom is located at 5713 Yates Mill Pond Road in Raleigh. For more information call 919-858-7777 or visit www.bethshalomnc.org.
