The Apex High School Marching Band earned a Grand Champion award at a recent competition and came within one point of winning a second one.

The band captured top honors against eight other bands during an Oct. 13 event in Bassett, Va. Apex also won the “music” and “visual” awards.

Apex traveled to Roanoke Rapids High School on Oct. 20 where it missed the Grand Champion title by a mere eight-tenths of a point to Athens Drive. The band did, however, earn first place in the music and visual ensemble categories and also won the “People’s Choice” award.

The band season keeps marching along this weekend as Apex travels Charlotte for a Saturday double-header competition at Ardrey Kell High School and Newton-Conover High School.

Band fundraiser

The band will hold its first annual carnival and silent auction Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Apex High School.

The event will feature inflatables, games, a variety of fair-style foods and a final performance by the band at 3:45 p.m., following the announcement of raffle and silent auction winners.

Tickets are $12 for students at the door and free to parents, toddlers and teachers. You can pre-order tickets for $10 per student via the band’s website at www.apexhighband.org.
