A Cary man was arrested early Tuesday morning in Apex after attempting to steal prescription medication from Walgreens drug store at knifepoint.

Zachery Lewis Erlemann, 20, of 110 Christofle Lane, entered the store shortly before 2 a.m. and pulled a knife on two customers. He allegedly led the customers to the back of the store where the pharmacy is located and attempted to obtain drugs from the pharmacist.

One of the customers, Michael Weaver of Durham, tried to subdue Erlemann and was stabbed in the arm during the altercation. His injury was not life-threatening.

Erlemann was arrested a block from the scene after Apex police officers stopped his vehicle. The suspect was treated by medical personnel for a broken nose he suffered during the scuffle with Weaver.

Police charged Erlemann with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, first degree kidnapping and two counts of second degree kidnapping.

The case has now been turned over to the Wake County District Attorney’s Office.
