Described as “an indispensable part of her department,” Jean Weatherman was recently recognized as the 2012 Town of Apex Employee of the Year during the town’s annual luncheon.
Notably, Jean has been nominated for this honor every year since she began work with the town in 2000. She serves as the development projects coordinator with the engineering department.
She was chosen from the 26 nominees among Apex’s 325 employees. Her nomination states that Jean “displays a positive attitude even when things are not going as smoothly as they could” and “gives 110 percent every day while continually producing high quality and accurate work.”
During the award presentation, Mayor Keith Weatherly noted that keeping projects and people on task is a major part Weatherman’s job, and she always looks for ways to make work processes better for all involved. He added that Jean identifies things that should be done even before others can recognize the need, and takes the initiative to carry out ideas.
Jean’s husband, Ken, is also a town employee. He has 15 years of service with the town’s electric utilities department, and was also nominated this year.
Town Manager Bruce Radford stated “Jean is the consummate professional, and is richly deserving of the award. She strives and succeeds at providing service at the highest possible level.”
Milestone awards were also given at the luncheon, honoring 54 employees who reached 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years of service.
The Employee of the Year is chosen from peer nominations, based on their embodiment of the Town’s Core Values to work with integrity, efficiency and innovation to provide exceptional service to citizens and customers.
