On Thursday, Jan. 17, Katelyn Sheets was the winner of the first spelling bee for the 2013 Scripps National Spelling Bee held at Holly Grove Elementary School in Holly Springs. She is pictured with Mr. DeSiato, HGES' Academically Gifted teacher, who served as the bee's proctor. Holly Grove Elementary had 11 school-wide finalists and they went six rounds before an elimination. Katelyn will go on to Wake County's county-wide spelling bee, and then the winner of that will go to Washington, D.C. for the 2013 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
