Apex held off a late Athens Drive surge en route to a 51-44 victory last week in the 6th Annual Hoops for Hope game that raises money for breast cancer research.

The victory improved Apex to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in the Tri-9 Conference while Athens Drive fell to 10-9 and 6-6.

Athens Drive, which trailed by as many as 11 points, fought back to close the gap to 44-40 with three minutes remaining in the contest.

But Apex closed out the game with a 7-4 run to seal the victory.

Tiffany Finley and Sam Curcuru paced Apex with 13 points apiece while Athen Drive’s Grace Hunter led all scorers with 24 points.
