The following programs are being held at the Eva Perry Regional Library in Apex. “Preserving Summer's Bounty" on Thursday, July 16 at 7 p.m. with Carol Mitchell will show you how to choose the right method of preserving your garden's harvest and buys from farmers markets or roadside stands. Ms. Mitchell will talk about canning, freezing, and drying fruits and veggies. Find out which method best suits your needs and the food you want to preserve. Watkins Performs With Honor Choir
Seth Watkins of Apex was one of 61 high school students from 19 states to gather at Harding University in Arkansas this week to study the many facets of choral music. The Summer Honor Choirs intensive musical study culminates in a free concert July 17 at the school. During the camp students experience a week of college life as they lodge in Harding residence halls and participate in devotionals and recreational activities.

Olive Chapel Elementary School
The first Early Release Day will be Wednesday, July 22. Students will be released at 1:15 p.m. to allow teachers to attend staff development training. Open House for students on Tracks 1 and 2, will be held on Tuesday, July 28, beginning at 6 p.m. Families are invited to visit classrooms from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and there will be a General Meeting of the PTA from 6:45 to 7 p.m. Classroom presentations will be repeated from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Open House for students on Tracks 3 and 4, will be held on Tuesday, August 18. Friday August 7, will be spirit day at Olive Chapel. All students and staff are encouraged to wear their spirit wear or school colors of blue and white. Interims and Progress Update reports will go home with all students on Tracks 1 and 2, in grades 2-5 on Friday, August 7. Teen Photography Contest
The West Regional Public Library is hosting a Teen Photography Contest for ages 12-18. Visit the library to pick up your registration packet--entries are due by Friday, July 31 at 6 p.m.
The photographs will be on display at the library August 10-21 for the public to view and vote for their favorite for the People's Choice Award. Additional prizewinners will be selected by local professional photographers, and winners will be announced at a reception on Saturday, August 22 at 2 p.m.

Apex High School
WCPSS high schools are offering freshman camps to help ninth graders begin their journey as the Class of 2013. While the camps serve some of the same purposes of orientation sessions held in the past, high school faculties have focused on relationship and team building exercises that are part of the school system's efforts to meet the needs of each student. Vendors Sought
On Oct. 31 the Fuquay-Varina Area Chamber of Commerce will host its 7th Annual Day in Downtown in the historic Fuquay downtown business district on South Main Street. The day will consist of an arts and craft fair, chili cook-off, Kids Korner, entertainment, food vendors and more.
