MCAA Spring Soccer Registrations It’s that time of year again! Let’s get ready for MCAA spring soccer registrations! Online registrations are now open and end on Feb. 7 - visit www.gomcaa.com. Walk-in dates for registration are Saturday, Jan. 16 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 6 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the McGee’s Middle School gym. We provide a fun, fast paced, learning environment for children of all ages. Age 3 before 7-31-09 is U4 (coed), Ages 4 & 5 before 7-31-09 is U6 (coed), Ages 6 & 7 before 7-31-09 is U8 (coed), Ages 8 & 9 before 7-31-09 is U10 (coed), Ages 10 & 11 before 7-31-09 is U12 and Ages 12 & 13 & 14 before 7-31-09 is U15 (coed) leagues. GCAA Rec Soccer Registrations Open 2010 Spring Rec Soccer Registrations at GCAA are now open at www.gcaasoccer.com. Registrations are for U04 (under age 4) through U15 (under age 15) age groups. Important dates, fees, and details of play for each age group are also on our web site. Registrations end Jan. 16. Practices begin mid February. Games start beginning of March. Don't forget to sign up to volunteer as a coach, assistant coach, or team parent. Remember, the GCAA is a community organization and run by all volunteers. With your help, we will have another successful season. We will offer one walk-in registration date at the Ag Building on the GCAA campus on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. Greater Cleveland Athletic Association strives to maintain a balance between teaching soccer skills, citizenship, sportsmanship, and healthy competition. We have minimum participation rules in all leagues to ensure that all players become a vital part of the team. GCAA is a member of the NC Youth Soccer Association.

Roberts Rules of Order and Meeting Management Jan. 20, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Cleveland Campus Are you in a position of leadership and need to learn the basics of leading an effective meeting? Are you a board officer that needs a refresher in Robert’s Rules of Order and correct parliamentary procedure? This seminar will discuss essentials of meeting management and how to use parliamentary procedure to guide your meeting to its best results. ServSafe Food Handling Manager’s Certification Course The Johnston County Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with the Johnston Co. Environmental Health Department will offer the ServSafe Food Sanitation Course. This comprehensive course is appropriate for food service managers and supervisory staff in restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, childcare facilities, and other food-handling establishments. The course will take place at the Ag Center Auditorium located at 2736 NC Hwy 210, on Jan. 19, 20, 22, 26, 27 and 28th, 2010 from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. on each date (you must be present on all six days). The exam will be given on Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. after a review. If you would like to register for this course, please call Debbie Stroud at 989-5380. Certification will be provided by the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association and will be based on successful completion of the course and by passing a written examination. A certificate, which can be proudly displayed in your business, will be issued to those receiving certification. Testing is optional, but certification will be issued only to those participants passing the written exam and attending all six sessions (16 hours). In addition, upon certification each participant is then eligible to receive an additional two points added to their sanitation grade by the Environmental Health Department. Arboretum holds soap making class Jan. 20 Lin Frye of the Arboretum at Johnston Community College will lead an herbal soap crafting class Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 6:30 - 9 p.m. The class is $25 and will be held in the Arboretum Brick Building. This ‘hands-on” class will teach you to create beautifully decorated & scented soaps using many of the herbs you have growing! Take home soaps for your own gift giving. Republican Women meeting on Jan. 21 The Johnston County Republican Women will meet on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at McCall's BBQ and Seafood Restaurant on Hwy 70, Clayton, at 6 p.m. Zan Bunn, Capitol Region Vice President for the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women will install the newly elected 2010 JCRW Board members: Joy Paul, President; Teresa Grant, Vice President; Denise Rentz, Secretary; Dr. Patricia Brady Harris, Treasurer. Renee' Ellmers, Candidate for Congressional 2nd District, has been invited to attend the meeting to give Republican women in Johnston County the opportunity to meet her. Miss Johnston County accepting contestants for pageant The Miss Johnston County Scholarship Organization is now accepting contestants for the 2010 Miss Johnston County Scholarship Pageant and the 2010 Johnston County’s and Garner’s Outstanding Teen Pageants. Both pageants will be held on February 20, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium at Johnston Community College. The Miss Johnston County Scholarship Pageant is a Miss America preliminary to Miss North Carolina. The Outstanding Teen pageants are America’s Outstanding Teen preliminaries to North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen. Contestants will compete in evening gown, talent, physical fitness, and interview. The 2010 Miss Johnston County will receive a $1,000 cash scholarship, a $1,000 in-kind scholarship to Johnston Community College, and a $1,000 in-kind scholarship to Campbell University. She will go on to compete for more scholarship money and the title of Miss North Carolina. We will be crowing two Outstanding Teen winners. Both the Johnston County’s Outstanding Teen and Garner’s Outstanding Teen will go on to compete for the title of North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen. Contestants for Miss Johnston County must be between the ages of 17-24 and a resident of or student is Johnston, Wake, Harnett, Sampson, Wayne, Wilson, or Nash County. Contestants for Johnston County’s and Garner’s Outstanding Teen must be between the ages of 13-17. To compete or for additional information, please contact MissJohnstonEd@aol.com.
