The Apex Police Department is tying pink ribbons on all police vehicles June 6 until June 13 to help raise awareness for breast cancer.

Breast cancer touches many families in our area and the department is showing its support to enhance awareness to this disease by proudly displaying pink ribbons on all police vehicles.

Apex police strive to partner with citizens to prevent crime and have fewer victims just as the Susan G. Komen Foundations puts a large effort into awareness to have fewer victims of this disease.

The Apex community has supported the department in many ways and now the department wants to show its support for those fighting breast cancer and for the efforts the Susan G. Komen foundation puts forth to raise awareness of breast cancer.

“We hope others will join us in supporting this most worthwhile cause,” said Apex Police Chief Jack Lewis.

The ribbons are being displayed in the week leading up to the 14th Annual NC Triangle Race for the Cure which is held on June 12. “Susan G. Komen for the Cure has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer over the past 25 years,” said Pam Blondin, executive director of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure NC Triangle. “(It is) transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease and (it’s) helping to turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivor.

“Why should you Go Pink? Every bit of awareness leads to earlier detection. Every dollar raised helps fulfill the Komen promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever.”
