The plan to issue a strong joint signal in this regard was presented at a meeting of the BRICS Council of Foreign Ministers (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
Lavrov pointed out that the number and complexity of the current challenges to the world community and the sustainable development of the planet are increasing.
Among them, he cited threats of terrorism, transnational crime, the digital sphere, climate change and the vast gap between rich and poor.
“These problems can only be solved together,” he said, highlighting the key role of the BRICS in addressing global challenges, “an example of true diversity, inclusive, global and non-discriminatory.”
Lavrov reiterated Russia’s willingness to continue to assist India in the fight against Govt-19.
“Only through joint efforts can the current crisis be overcome for the benefit of the people of all countries,” the Russian diplomat said, adding that the epidemic had put pressure on national health organizations.
At the same time, he denounced the escalation of negative trends in international relations, which increased the likelihood of conflict and the destruction of the system of strategic stability.
“National selfishness, the desire to dominate in any way and ignorance of the interests of other countries undermine the foundations of the multilateral system created after World War II, the cornerstone of which is international law,” he stressed.
