The Minister of Health is calling for awareness on the dangers of smoking

Havana-. On the occasion of celebrating World No Tobacco Day today, Cuban Public Health Minister Jose Angel called on the portal Miranda to raise awareness on Twitter about the harmful and dangerous effects of this habit.

Portal Miranda recalled that smoking is a risk factor for many respiratory infections and increases the severity of this type of disease.

“World #Nobopogo Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the harmful and dangerous effects of tobacco use. Keep in mind that smoking is a risk factor for many respiratory infections and increases the severity of this type of illness. #CubaPorLaVida ”, the head of health tweeted.

As of date, the World Health Organization states on its website that, according to published sources, smokers are more likely to develop a serious illness with COVID-19 than non-smokers.

Tobacco use is a major preventable disease facing the healthcare community, resulting in the deaths of approximately eight million people each year.

The biggest cause of death is lung cancer, and about 80 percent of all deaths can be prevented by eliminating consumption.

The World Health Organization established World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw attention to the tobacco epidemic and its dangerous effects.

This annual celebration is to inform the public about the dangers posed by tobacco consumption and to encourage the implementation of effective public policies to reduce it.

Cuba commemorates World No Tobacco Day under the slogan “Govt-19: An Opportunity to Quit Smoking”, highlighting the importance of taking the first step to quitting addiction.
