The Nicaraguan Attorney’s Office is continuing its investigation against two voluntary organizations

June 16, 2021, 11:44 pmManagua, June 16 (Brensa Latin) The Nicaraguan Ministry of Public Works today announced that ongoing investigations are underway into the voluntary charities Fondacian Violeta Barrios de Zamoro (FVP) and Funeites for receiving resources funded by foreign sources.

A press release from the body said that investigations against NGOs (NGOs), the FVP and the Nicaraguan Economic and Community Development Trust (Fonights) include indications that rights have been violated by the respective board of directors and the people of the Nicaraguan community. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the prosecutor’s office summoned six people related to the aforementioned charities, two of whom did not appear.

The public ministry has asked the judiciary to order the removal of the banking, finance and tax secrecy of the persons under investigation.

All of the people invited to testify have received financial resources linked to Fvbch and Funides, which are paid overseas by organizations such as the United States Agency for International Development.

In addition, those under trial face a process protected by law (1055) that protects the people’s right to freedom, sovereignty and self-determination, which establishes the grounds for treason against the homeland.

The Ministry of Public Works stressed that the entire process guarantees the constitutional rights of the persons cited and questioned.

The investigation began on May 20 when the Interior Ministry summoned three executives of the already inactive Fvbch due to “discrepancies found in the financial statements for the period 2015-2019”.

As of June 2, the Nicaraguan Ministry of Public Works had demanded the arrest of several adversaries for money, property and property fraud and in all cases for crimes detrimental to national sovereignty.
