U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday attacked Donald Trump over allegations of electoral fraud in the country’s last election and laws passed by Republicans regarding the right to vote.
“In the United States, if you lose, you accept the results,” Biden said in a speech from the Atrium of the National Constitution Center, directly to former Republican President Donald Trump. According to Pitton, allegations of fraud by Trump and Republicans regarding the election results are a “big lie.”
“If you lose, you follow the constitution, you do not call the facts ‘fraud’, you are trying to throw out the American experiment because you are unhappy. It is not a political strategist, it is selfish,” he stressed.
Similarly, he argued that the United States was facing the most important test of its democracy “after the Civil War” because of the Republicans’ refusal to pass electoral reform legislation.
“Whether we want to stop foreign interference in our elections or spread false information from within, we must work together,” he warned.
“It’s not about Democrats and Republicans. It’s about who we Americans are, it’s fundamental,” he added.
In late June, Republicans in the Senate blocked an electoral law reform program that was one of the president’s priority programs.
The speech, which was already approved in the Democratic-dominated House of Representatives in March, thinks of a series of reforms to the current law, including the creation of independent commissions to avoid party interference and an increase in budgets to combat interference. It is the duty of the states to provide ballots by mail at least fifteen days before the start of campaigns, voter registration or early voting.
